Bloodpril Review: What to Buy Instead, and What It Would Cost

This site keeps arriving at the same recommendation, so it is worth setting out what the alternative actually looks like in practice and what it costs.

The supplement route

L-citrulline is the ingredient worth buying directly. Look for a product stating its dose per serving and directing 3–6 g daily — the range the blood pressure trials used. Bulk powder is cheapest; capsules cost more but avoid the taste.

Take it consistently for at least six to eight weeks, because the trials that showed effects ran that long. Split the dose if you find a single serving uncomfortable.

Citrulline malate versus pure citrulline: malate is the form in most sports products and includes the malic acid component, so check whether a stated dose refers to the combined weight or the citrulline content. That distinction catches people out.

The food route

Dietary nitrate reaches the same nitric oxide endpoint by a completely different path, and the evidence is arguably better. Bacteria on your tongue reduce nitrate to nitrite, which becomes nitric oxide. Beetroot juice trials commonly used the equivalent of 300–600 mg of nitrate, with blood pressure effects appearing within hours.

Rocket, spinach, lettuce and beetroot are all rich sources. Concentrated beetroot shots are sold specifically for this.

One genuinely useful detail: antibacterial mouthwash blunts the effect by killing the oral bacteria that perform the first conversion step. If you are trying the beetroot route, skip the mouthwash.

What you gain and lose

Gain: a known dose at the researched level, lower cost per day, the ability to adjust one thing at a time, and in the food case a set of other cardiovascular benefits that come along with vegetables.

Lose: convenience, a bundled guarantee, and the simplicity of one purchase. Those have genuine value and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise.

And the caution carries over. Concentrated beetroot and standalone citrulline act on the same pathway as nitrates and PDE5 inhibitors. Buying an ingredient directly does not remove the interaction — if anything a proper dose makes it more relevant. The pharmacist conversation applies either way.

Nitrates, sildenafil and the pathway problem

This is the interaction that matters most, and it follows directly from the mechanism working as advertised.

Nitrate medicines — nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate and dinitrate — work by donating nitric oxide directly into the vasodilation pathway. PDE5 inhibitors — sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil — work by preventing the breakdown of the cGMP signal that nitric oxide produces. And L-arginine and L-citrulline increase your own nitric oxide production.

Three different routes converging on one effect. Combining them can lower blood pressure further than any of them was intended to, and the practical consequences — dizziness on standing, fainting, falls — are not trivial in an older population.

To its credit, the seller names nitrates specifically in its FAQ rather than hiding behind generic boilerplate. That is more than most manage. But it deserves to be a conversation with a pharmacist rather than a line you scroll past.
